Ben Cutajar had a consistent string of results at this years QLD Under 19 Champs. Ben started with a podium finish on the Friday for the Time Trial in 3rd position. This was followed by a 4th on the Saturday in the Road Race - after 117 km Ben was cramping up on the final sprint and couldn't quite get his wheel into third place. This was then followed with a 6th place at the Criterium on the Sunday - 8 riders hammered it out from the gun for the 30min + 3 race with Ben getting boxed in and not able to let loose in the final sprint. We'd like to congratulate him for his results and wish him all the best this coming weekend for the Australian National U19 Championships. Thanks must also go to Brendan McAuliffe for helping Ben over the last few months prepare him for States and Nationals. Great effort and we know it is much appreciated. |

Mike Johnson and his family had a very narrow miss this afternoon when a slip occurred on the Springbrook road crushing part of their car and blocking the vehicle. Mike and his wife led their family away to safety. We wish Mike and his family our best. With the hills sodden with rain warnings of more slips have been posted, please be careful. |

Great Event - Great Venue!!! Firstly I'd like to extend congratulations to Wynnum Redland Cycling Club for putting on a fantastic event today. This is the first time WRCC have used this course since 1997 (I heard this indirectly so I apologise if it is not correct). The race was well run and the facilities, parking and organisation was first rate. For those of you who didn't know WRCC secured the use of the Vehicle Training Centre at Mt Cotton and ran a 3.2 km Kermesse format road race for all grades. The fields were large but the course was superb making it a very safe event. With the organisation and effort by both Logan and Wynnum Redlands the standard of events has taken a real jump and the bar has been set. Let's look forward to all clubs matching the calibre set by these two clubs. The racing was fast and it was a hot and windy day. A few overhead clouds kept the temperature down a bit but there was a lot of pain left on the road. Luke Lucas was recruited (kicking and screaming I bet) to commentate for the event and kept the spectators up to date with the race and the personalities in it. Luke had a great day on the mic and kept the crowd entertained - excellent job buddy. |

A group of intrepid riders ignored the weather forecast of “Increasing rain” and met up at Q Super Store at Robina at 7am and headed off to Springbrook. The ride was to substitute for the cancellation of the scheduled event at Arundel because of the running of the Mt Cotton Kermesse. There were representatives of all clubs in the Gold Coast region – CATS, Goldstars and Murwillumbah. A few threatening clouds lurking overhead may have discouraged a few riders from getting out of bed! However they soon dissipated and we enjoyed blue skies and an ideal temperature as we moved off as a group towards the hinterland. The group split into two as some headed towards the Numinbah Valley and others continued further up to Springbrook. The final verdict from all concerned was that it was a most enjoyable ride with great camaraderie. Isn’t that what cycling is all about? It is definitely an event to be repeated at the earliest suitable occasion and I would encourage those CATS riders who missed this one to mark the next social ride in bold type in their diaries. Stay tuned for the next Club Ride - We are targeting Good Friday with a ride from the Q Store up to Currumbin Valley with an option to return directly or via Connection Road and Tallebudgera Creek Road.
