An outstanding performance from our Elite Mens Team has resulted in their winning the Queensland State Team Time Trial at Laidley last Sunday. The team of Matt Werrell, Ricky Lanyon, Ben Cutajar and Peter Gwynne beat a strong field over 80 kms by just 6 seconds. Conditions were extremely difficult with the prevailing strong winds and it is a credit to these riders to have shown such determination to achieve a gold medal performance. Gold Coast CATS were well represented on the day with 4 Mens teams and 2 Womens teams all of whom performed with merit. In addition to the Gold Winning performance of the Elite Mens team special mention must go to the following: SILVER medals were won by our Womens Masters team of Sally Smalley, Lisa Drew, Janine Parkin, and Debra Marl, and our Mens Masters 6/7 team of Paul Wild, Robert Driver, Ron Hewes, and Steve Davies. Whilst our Mens Masters 2/3 team of Mark Brady, Garry Elliott, Greg Pooley and Peter Roper were awarded BRONZE. Other Gold Coast CATS riders to take to the road included the second Mens Masters 2/3 team of Gary Parkin, Pat Goddard, Nathen Berghammer, and Richard Mier. The Womens Elite team consisted of Heidi Croxson, Renee Stone, Brittany Lyndores, and Amanda Scott. Congratulations go to all who braved the difficult conditions and wore their Gold Coast CATS colours with pride.

Gold Coast CATS Cycling Club facilitated the Corporate Partners Ride for Microsoft Australia as part of their annual Australasian Partner Conference on the Gold Coast. The partners were attired in Microsoft Windows 7 attire and split into two groups - One going leisurely for a 25km ride to the Spit. The other for a more robust ride to Coolangata. Former Professional Cyclist and Olympic Gold Medalist Sara Carrigan led the group to Coolangata which proved a very popular ride with the pace steadily increasing to get back in time for the Partner event activities later in the day. Club Captain and well known local rider Nathen Berghammer led the group to the spit for what to some was an extremely challenging ride. A number of the riders had not touched their bikes since childhood and could not believe that they had travelled 25km under their own steam. The ride met back at the Gold Coast Convention Centre where Photos were taken and Coffees consumed ready for a day of hard work.  |

Please be aware that on Tuesday evenings Track training (endurance events only i.e. No Sprint events, Maddisons or Kierins) is held at the Chandler Velodrome in Brisbane. The training events are track endurance events and are run by Wynnam Redlands Cycling Club. $10 covers entry to the event and covers the hiring of the facility and cost of the lights (check out the roadgrime site for more details). For those of you who wish to get some training in for the upcoming local Friday night racing at the Nerang Velodrome (1 Hope Street, Nerang), cross train, prepare for next years events, or the World Masters later this year, head on up to Brisbane for a 19:00 start. If you haven't tried track racing before contact me and we can try and set you up with a few sampler sessions at Nerang and you can judge for yourself if you would like to take it further. Having a few sampler session will ensure that you are comfortable prior to any race training. For those of you who have been 'banned' from Road racing by your significant others Track endurance racing, Pursuits especially, are a very safe option as you can train on a velodrome (away from those pesky cars) and also the likelihood of coming into contact with another rider is unlikely unless they pass you (or you pass them first!!!). The Chandler Velodrome is part of the Sleemans Sports Centre in Brisbane and is easy to get to from the Gateway Motorway. Please contact me for further information regarding riders who currently travel up that may be able to assist in getting you there and also if you need to gain access to one of the club track bikes.
